Indore has been policed as a commissionerate since December 2021, organised into four zones each under a deputy commissioner. The boundary catches people out on the outskirts. Rau sits inside the commissionerate in zone one, but Mhow, Simrol, Sanwer, Depalpur, Hatod and Betma fall to Indore Rural under a superintendent headquartered at Mhow. Pithampur is not Indore at all: it is policed by Dhar district. A sweep at a Pithampur plant that calls Indore Police is calling the wrong force.
Two helpline corrections matter in Madhya Pradesh. Both city police sites publish 1090 as the women's helpline. The 181 number, which is a women's line in several other states, is the Chief Minister's grievance helpline here, for complaints about government departments rather than police emergencies. Use 112 for an emergency, 1090 for women, 1930 for cyber crime, and the city's own cyber cell alongside them.
Madhya Pradesh does have an e-FIR, and the state police describe it as an alternative facility for getting an FIR registered rather than an FIR in itself: the complainant is expected to attend the police station within about three days, and the eligible categories centre on vehicle theft with an unidentified accused. A covert recording complaint is not in that category, so it belongs at the station. One local lever worth knowing: a standing order under the criminal procedure code requires hotels, lodges, hostels and landlords to report occupant details to the local police station, and Indore Police booked twenty-two establishments in a single drive in November 2025 for failing to do so.
