Professional Bug Sweeps in Srinagar

Srinagar runs a tourism economy built on hotels, guest houses, homestays and houseboats, alongside the commercial and administrative offices of the Kashmir division. That mix puts a lot of people into rooms they do not control, for short periods, in premises that change hands and staff often. We agree the scope with you first, then work through it using radio-frequency analysis for anything transmitting, a non-linear junction detector that finds electronics left switched off, optical and thermal checks, and a close physical inspection.

Srinagar gives you something most Indian cities do not: a second route for an accommodation complaint. Alongside the ordinary police station there is a tourist police station at the Tourist Reception Centre, open around the clock, and tourism enforcement officers who hold compounding powers over harassment of tourists under the territory's tourist trade law. Worth knowing before you need it. Worth knowing too that accommodation offences here are actively prosecuted: in May 2026 one city police station registered cases against a hotel and two homestays over guest reporting breaches.

Two routes for a hotel complaint, and an official station list that is out of date

Srinagar is a police district under a senior superintendent. There is no commissionerate anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir, and there is no separate rural force here either: the city and the areas around it sit in one district, divided into sub-divisions under assistant or deputy superintendents. Escalation runs station house officer, sub-divisional officer, senior superintendent, range deputy inspector general, zone inspector general, then the territory's police chief. Because policing in a union territory sits with the Lieutenant Governor and the union home ministry rather than an elected state government, that is where the ladder ends.

The jurisdictional edge that catches people out is not a city boundary but the next police district. The airport and the Humhama side fall in Budgam, a separate district under a different superintendent, so an incident there does not escalate through Srinagar at all.

Two station level details are worth confirming before you report anything. There is no police station called Lal Chowk; that area is covered from Kothibagh, with Maisuma and Kralkhud adjoining, and exactly where the line falls is not clearly published. And five stations created in 2022, including Chanapora, Bemina and Shalteng, still do not appear on the territory police station list, so the official list is not a reliable guide to which station covers an address. Ring 112 and confirm rather than travelling to the wrong one. For the same reason we publish no station count.

For a hotel, guest house, homestay or houseboat complaint there is a genuine second route. A tourist police station operates at the Tourist Reception Centre around the clock, and the tourism department's enforcement officers hold magisterial and compounding powers in respect of cheating, overcharging and harassment of tourists. That is unusual in India and worth using alongside, not instead of, the police station. Cyber matters go to the cyber police station for the Kashmir zone at the Shergari complex, or through 1930 and the national portal.

Common situations in Srinagar

Hotels, guest houses and homestays

Checks before an extended stay or a sensitive meeting, covering fittings, vents, detectors and anything recently added to the room.

Houseboats

Houseboats are legally hotels here, registered under the same tourist trade law. Small, hand-fitted interiors with a lot of joinery give plenty of places for a device.

Offices and trading premises

Sweeps before a negotiation or a partnership change, in premises where staff and visitors pass through routinely.

Homes, rented rooms and vehicles

Checks after a tenancy change or a dispute, plus tracker checks under the body, around the wheel arches and at the diagnostic port.

The report, and what it can establish

After the sweep you receive a written report: the areas examined and any that could not be accessed, the methods used in each, anything found with photographs taken in position, and practical recommendations. If a device is found, we document it before anyone moves it, so the evidence survives for a police complaint.

A sweep reports what was found in the areas examined, with the methods used, at the time of the visit. Finding nothing does not prove nothing was ever there, and no sweep keeps a space clean afterwards. We would rather say that plainly than promise complete detection.

The full range of sweeps is described on our services page, and our national guide covers how to prepare, what drives the cost, and what to do if you find a device. The credentials behind the work, including company registration and award documentation, are on the founder page.

Bug sweeping in Srinagar: common questions

Is the Srinagar airport area covered by Srinagar police?

No. The airport and the Humhama side fall in Budgam, a separate police district under a different superintendent. Srinagar district itself runs from the old city through to Nishat, Harwan, Nowgam and Panthachowk. Confirm the covering station before you report anything, because the official station list is also out of date.

Which police station covers Lal Chowk?

There is no station called Lal Chowk. The area is covered from Kothibagh, with Maisuma and Kralkhud adjoining, and the exact boundary is not clearly published. Note also that five stations created in 2022, including Chanapora, Bemina and Shalteng, do not appear on the official list at all, so ring 112 to confirm rather than relying on it.

Do I have any route other than the police for a hotel or houseboat problem?

Yes, and it is unusual. A tourist police station operates at the Tourist Reception Centre around the clock, and tourism enforcement officers hold magisterial and compounding powers over cheating, overcharging and harassment of tourists under the tourist trade law. Houseboats count as hotels under that law, so a houseboat guest has the same standing. Use it alongside a police complaint rather than instead of one.

Are accommodation rules actually enforced in Srinagar?

Yes. In May 2026 a city police station registered cases against a hotel and two homestays for failing to report guests as required. The duty to file guest details within twenty four hours sits on the keeper of the accommodation rather than the guest, and carries substantial penalties, so a property that is casual about your details is already taking a risk.
