Lucknow has been policed as a commissionerate under Uttar Pradesh Police since January 2020, organised into five zones and thirteen divisions covering around fifty police stations. That matters for practical reasons as much as structural ones: guidance still addressed to a senior superintendent of police is describing an office that no longer runs the city.
Uttar Pradesh's e-FIR portal states in its own words that the facility is available only for cases with an unknown accused and for non-special-report matters. A hidden camera or tracker complaint usually points at someone with access, a landlord, an employer, a hotel operator or a former partner, which puts it outside e-FIR. The separate citizen portal takes complaints, tenant and paying guest verification and similar services, but a complaint form is not an FIR either, so the report is made at the police station.
Two Lucknow-specific routes are worth knowing. The city has its own cyber police station, listed with its contact address in the state police's published list of district cyber police stations, and 1090, the Women Power Line, is not merely a number that works here: it is run from Lucknow by the Uttar Pradesh Police Women and Child Security Organization, operating around the clock and linked to police stations across the state.
